Beachlife LA: Uncovering Hermosa and Redondo

With day 1 of 2 out of the way, I was keen for a more relaxing day 2.  I have always wanted to see the other beaches in LA heading south.  With a good potential coffee option marked on Google Maps, I headed south down the freeway.

Luckily being the weekend, there was little to no traffic, making the journey only 25 minutes.

Two Guns – Manhattan Beach

Being early, I thought I would beat any crowds…… I was wrong.  The amazing coffee at Two Guns is definitely not a secret.

It was funny as I drove past 3 empty Starbucks on my way here.

They also serve a wicked breakfast.

It was impossible to eat or drink inside, as the place was tiny.

So after collecting my coffee and toast, I went an ate it in the car.  It was way too cold to eat outside.

It was very tasty, but for AUD$17 for a coffee and small toast, I
cursed the exchange rate.

It was only 5 minutes drive to Hermosa Beach.

Hermosa Beach

I immediately loved this place.  It was a quieter Venice minus the masses of tourists.

I headed down the pier.

Beach volleyball was in full swing.

The pier offers great views.

If this pier looks familiar, you might recognise it from La La Land minus Ryan Gosling.

Hermosa Beach Surfing Hall of Fame

This beach is famous for being the first surfing beach in California.

The free parking was due to expire, so I headed back to the car.

This is such a beautiful community.

Less than 10 minutes drive south is another well-known beach – Redondo.

Redondo Beach

There was paid parking next to the pier, but I took my normal strategy and drove 2 blocks back with free parking.

Spring is definitely arriving in LA.

The Redondo Pier and International Boardwalk

There was some kind of event happening with a long line of kayaks and paddle boards coming into the pier.

I love how the locals spend their time here.

A great view to Redondo Beach.

Very curious locals.

Not sure why this reminded me of the metro in Mexico City.

Time for some brunch.

Wow. How far is Sydney?

Next stop, another cup of coffee.  Next to the coffee place I saw this cute homewares store.

The Boy and The Bear

The saddest thing about this place was the lack of comfortable seats…

The coffee was delicious but I had to drink it in the car.

Time to head back to rest before my next flight. The freeways here are a wonder.  They are so extensive and so massive.  I wonder if this city will ever embrace public transport?

Another awesome day in Los Angeles.
